Ways to use Lemons as a beauty product
The natural acids in the lemon are well known to remove dead skin cells as well as even out skintone. But it also is a natural way to diminish oil, freckles, and even blackheads.
Check out how your can incorporate lemon into your beauty routine
For acne
You can create your own clarifying body lotion/toner by mixing lemon with coconut water, to be used as a body astringent. Mix a few drops of coconut water with equal amounts of lemon juice. The coconut will hydrate your skin, and lemon will clear and brighten it. For troubled skin, replace coconut water with coconut oil, massage into upper arms, knees, and elbows.
Brighten Skintone
What works on your face works on the body! If you have unwanted dark spots, or if your knees and elbows appear shades darker than the rest of your body, simply rub the area with half a lemon.
Facial mask
Mash up a banana and mix with 1 Tbsp lemon juice. Apply on face and leave for about 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
Exfoliate
Mix 1 TBSP of lemon juice with 1/4 c. of plain greek yogurt and a TBSP of honey. Mix until it forms a paste and apply it to your clean face (avoid getting too close to the eyes) like a mask. Leave it on for about 10 minutes and rinse.
Treat Blackheads
Using a Q-tip, apply lemon juice to the affected blackhead
Fade Dark Spots
Apply the juice directly to dark spots on your face, using a Q-tip. Don’t forget to follow up with a sunscreen, because the acid in the lemon will make your skin more sensitive to UV rays.
Chapped Lips
Rub a small lemon wedge on your lips and allow it to sit over night. In the morning, follow it up with a coconut oil or your favorite natural oil. If you’re lips are cracked, don’t do this. The acid in the lemon will burn your lips up! use a hydrating balm instead.
Strengthen Weak Nails
Put some olive oil in to a small bowl and add a tbsp of lemon juice. Soak your nails for about 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse and pat dry. Not only will it strengthen brittle nails, it also brightens and whitens yellowing.
Lighten Elbows & Knees
Rubbing your dark elbows and knees with a slice of lemon can help to lighten these areas. Don’t forget to follow up with a moisturizer
Whiten Your Teeth
Taking a tip from our baking soda beauty tips: you can mix sodium bicarbonate with lemon juice and apply to teeth with a Q-tip. Then brush normally.
Remove Toxins
Each morning, wash a lemon and squeeze its juice and pulp into a pitcher of room temperature-to-warm water, then drink up! The lemon supposedly activates the liver, prepping for toxin removal. It’s a great way to start the day on a healthy path.
