Healthy food swaps that will help you lose weight

[nextpage title=”next” ]

Ever since I did the oolong tea post , I’ve been getting a lot of questions from people. I  hate to break it to ya, but oolong tea isn’t a magical tea that will just melt your fat away overnight (someone needs to invent that btw) , you also need to watch you eat.

I started my weight loss journey in December last year , I only wanted to reduce my tummy and waist size, I weighed about 67kg and my waist size was about 30 inches -now I weigh 58kg and my waist measurement is 25.5 inches

I’ll be sharing with you the different things I did, from waist training ( yes,it worked for me) ,food swaps, cardio, strength training on here.

So today let look at food swaps!

I don’t exercise much, so I’m very careful what I eat .I found that once I wasn’t eating junk food and I reduced the amount of simple carbs I  was eating , losing weight became really easy

White bread for Brown bread:

Before this journey, all I ate everyday was white bread and rice, growing up if I didn’t eat agege bread in a day, my day wasn’t complete, I  knew I had to stop so I switched to wheat bread last December , it was disgusting at first but it grows on you -my best brand is natures field.

White bread has 100 KCals more than brown bread. White bread made from refined flour is tough to digest and you will require more vitamins, enzymes and minerals for the process. Brown bread or whole wheat bread is a much healthier option with a higher fiber content ,so you don’t get hungry

* Foods that are high in fiber content are filling  so you don’t get hungry easily

Swap coffee for green/oolong tea:

Caffeine may give you a short term jolt but green tea contains the antioxidant catechin, which actually helps with longer term weight loss, take it a step further and try oolong tea  even more health and weight loss boosting properties than green tea

Regular spaghetti for wheat spaghetti

Whole grain products are significantly  higher in fiber and nutrients than refined products , wheat spaghetti is more expensive than regular  spaghetti and it has shorter shelf life, but it’s worth it -drop that Indomie, it’s bad for your waistline

The only place I’ve been able to find wheat spaghetti is Supermart.ng

Swap milk chocolate for organic dark chocolate: Most chocolate bars are high in sugar and come with zero nutritional value. However, dark chocolate is naturally lower in. Dark chocolate has also been shown to increase blood flow to the brain as well as to the heart, so it can help improve cognitive function and reduce the risk of stroke

Soft drink for water/smoothie

I can’t believe I stopped taking soft drinks, I always thought it was impossible ,well I could take a bottle once or twice a month but it’s really not because I crave it, I probably was in desperate need of a cold drink.- drinking a lot of water helps you burn calories and flush out toxin from your system

Ice cream for frozen yoghurt

Ice cream may be one of the most popular desserts around, but unfortunately the frozen treat is extremely high in sugar and fat. If you are craving dessert but want to save on calories, try swapping ice cream for a bowl of low fat frozen yoghurt..

Swap potatoes and yam for sweet potatoes

Eating white potatoes aren’t bad for you but sweet potatoes provide more vitamins A and C and pack more nutrients (potassium, calcium, magnesium and magnese)  With fewer calories, more fiber and less total carbs,  sweet potatoes are way better. They are also great for managing sweet cravings as they have slightly more sugar than a white potato.

Vegetable oil for Olive oil: Switching from regular cooking oil to olive oil is a good option as olive oil is full of healthy benefits and lower fat content.

White sugar for Raw honey: Refined white sugar is a storehouse of health problems. So skip it for raw, organic honey that has the same amount of sweetness minus the calories
