Why your need to add facial steamers to your skincare routine

We all know that just five minutes in a steam room can do wonders for the skin – but what’s really going on all that steam? And with the rise of the at-home facial, which steamers take the spa experience into our own hands, we decided it was time to investigate.

A facial steamer is a device which uses warm steam to cleanse your pores, soothe congestion and promote whole-body relaxation. They are relatively inexpensive, yet provide a calming, spa experience in the comfort of your own home. A steaming session can use water alone, or it can be combined with essential oils for aromatherapy, or other topical products if you want to also get an exfoliation.

Benefits of facial steamers

They help  your skin become more receptive to other skincare treatments

After using your facial steamer to clear away dirt or bacteria in your pores, follow up by exfoliating the dead skin cells this helps beauty products to better penetrate your skin thereby making  your skin able to benefit from the beauty products you might use, such as lotions or facial masks

They help remove toxins

When you sweat in the steam room or take a hot detoxifying bath, your body perspires and releases toxins. Your face is no different, so facial steaming is a great way to release toxins that could be causing imbalances in your skin.

They help prevent acne

When hot steam makes contact with your face, you sweat, this results in your pores opening up. It helps to break away the hard sebum stuck in your pores, and release any dirt and bacteria that would have contributed to an acne breakout

Facial steaming is also specifically helpful in preventing acne breakouts from occurring and if you’ve suffered from acne and haven’t found a remedy, which works, then facial steaming is worth giving a shot. The main factor, which contributes to acne breakouts, is clogged pores. With clogged pores, your skin gets irritated and in some cases, becomes infected. Even if you don’t suffer from acne, facial steaming is a great way to keep your skin pores clean

They promote healthy circulation

Increasing your perspiration helps your skin’s blood vessels to dilate, improving blood flow. The blood feeds and oxygenates the skin. Good circulation is key to a healthy complexion.

Note: I know after stating all the benefits of using facial steamers, you might be tempted to use  it every day, but most skin care experts will advise you steam once or twice a week- doing too much steaming could dry out your skin and cause inflammation
