When the Deliverer Is Born: Why the Enemy Always Targets a Generation
Have you ever noticed a pattern in the Bible? A divine promise is made… then silence… then, just before the promise is fulfilled, all hell breaks loose. It’s almost like the enemy senses that a deliverer is about to rise—but he doesn’t know who it is. So what does he do?
He attacks the entire generation.
Recently, I was reflecting on how God told Abraham in a dream that his descendants would be enslaved for 400 years—and that afterward, they would come out with great possessions (Genesis 15:13–14). Centuries later, during Moses’s time, Pharaoh gave a horrifying decree: every newborn Hebrew boy was to be thrown into the Nile. Why? Because deliverance was near. The enemy knew someone was coming. He just didn’t know who.
And then it hit me: the exact same thing happened with Jesus.
The prophets—especially Isaiah—spoke of a Messiah who would come to save humanity (You need to read Isaiah 53!). Hundreds of years passed. Then one day, Herod hears about a baby born “King of the Jews.” He panics and in a desperate attempt to kill this promised King, he orders every male child under two in Bethlehem to be murdered (Matthew 2:16).
Just like Pharaoh.
They couldn’t see the whole picture. But they could feel the shift.
Patterns of Prophetic War
This is not coincidence—it’s a spiritual pattern. Let me lay it out clearly:
| Moses | Jesus |
|---|---|
| Deliverer of Israel from slavery | Deliverer of the world from sin |
| 400-year prophecy to Abraham | Centuries of prophecy before birth |
| Pharaoh kills baby boys | Herod kills baby boys |
| Raised in Egypt | Hidden in Egypt |
| Leads exodus to promised land | Leads us to eternal life |
In both stories, the enemy responds to prophecy with panic, not precision. He doesn’t know exactly what God is doing, so he tries to destroy everything in sight.
God Always Preserves the Promise
But here’s what gives me hope: God always preserves the promise.
Moses survived. Jesus survived. And both grew in obscurity until their appointed time. This shows me that if you’re still here, you’ve survived for a reason.
Maybe you’ve felt like you were born into the middle of a war—family cycles, generational curses, oppression, grief, or hardship. Maybe it feels like your whole generation is under attack: mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically. But could it be that the enemy’s aggression is actually a sign?
That a deliverer is rising?
Maybe you are part of that answer. Maybe your purpose carries a level of deliverance for others—freedom, justice, healing, restoration. The warfare around you might not be random. It might be strategic.
Because the enemy doesn’t waste energy on what doesn’t threaten him.
The devil doesn’t know your full story, but he can feel the shift in the spirit. That’s why the fight has been intense. That’s why he tries to attack your identity, your future, your mind, your confidence, your legacy. That could be why he let you have those suicidal thoughts so you could take out yourself before you do all God has called you to do.
But like Moses… like Jesus… you’ve been preserved.
So don’t shrink back. Rise. You are part of the fulfillment of a promise—maybe one spoken generations before you were born.
Scripture Meditations
- “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son…” – Galatians 4:4
- “The enemy will come in like a flood, but the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.” – Isaiah 59:19
- “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” – Genesis 50:20
If this stirred something in your heart, share it with someone who feels like they’re in a battle for their life right now. Remind them: the attack is proof of the promise. And God never loses track of His deliverers.
